The Wild Heart of the Women Mystics

Broadcast on June 26, 2023
With Mirabai Starr
Hosted by James Twyman

In this session, Mirabai Starr explores three women mystics — Clare of Assisi, Teresa of Avila, and Julian of Norwich. While all three saints were rooted in the Christian tradition, their connection to the Divine transcends religious identification, and extends in practical ways to our own lives today as we strive to walk in peace and beauty, balancing contemplative life with compassionate action in the world.

In this session, you’ll discover:

  • Clare of Assisi was a powerful teacher in her own right and models a path of contemplative practice and compassionate service
  • Teresa of Avila's visions and raptures were balanced by her revolutionary reform of the church, and her passion ignites our own
  • Julian of Norwich lived during the plague, yet offers optimistic theology showing us how to make meaning of our hardships
