The Spiritual Foundations of Healing

Broadcast on June 26, 2023
With James Finley, PhD
Hosted by James Twyman

James Finley, PhD, will reveal the healing effects of learning to live a more contemplative way of life, as you discover how to deepen your experience of (and response to) God's presence in your life. James will share his own healing journey — from childhood experiences of trauma that led him to living for six years as a cloistered monk, guided by Thomas Merton, to his nearly thirty years of learning from people who have shared their own healing journies with him in psychotherapy.

In this session, you’ll discover:

  • Passages in Thomas Merton's writings help you recognize moments you're graced with intimate tastes of God's sustaining oneness
  • How to more habitually abide in the depths fleetingly glimpsed in your moments of spiritual awakening
  • Ways to heal the suffering that's found its way into your mind and heart, by drawing upon your intimate experience of God
The views expressed are specific to the author/speaker and may vary from the perspectives of The Shift Network's participants, staff, or other speakers.
